John Begeny, Ph.D.
John founded Helps Education Fund in 2010. He served as Executive Director from 2010-2015, then as Director of Programs and Research, and returned to the role of Executive Director in 2020. Over the years, he has volunteered to serve in nearly every role of the organization. Currently a Raleigh, NC resident, John is also a Professor of School Psychology at North Carolina State University. His work as a nonprofit director and as a university professor and researcher has been driven by a commitment to enhancing educational equity, improving the connection between educational research and practice, and engaging in community partnerships that strive to foster a more just society.
John received his Bachelor’s degree at Western Michigan University (studying Psychology, English, and Philosophy), and his Master of Science and Ph.D. in School Psychology at Syracuse University.
Although John really values his time and activity with Helps Education Fund, other interests help to keep him balanced and happy. John enjoys music-related activities, photography, improving his Spanish, reading creative literature, and watching documentaries. He also enjoys time with friends and family, and devotes a lot of time to learning more about the world and people by backpacking through different countries.
