Adult, Family, and Community Empowerment Programs
Katie was born and raised in central North Carolina. She studied Elementary Education and Community Justice Studies at Guilford College, and attended graduate school at UNC’s School of Social Work, focusing on adolescent and family health at the intersections of schools and the criminal legal system. She has worked in public schools, legal education and advocacy, public libraries and the arts. These experiences have taught her how critical literacy is for people’s agency and dignity in all areas of their lives, and given her a deep passion for collective and collaborative approaches to community issues.
Katie enjoys spending time in nature, reading, and watching live music and theatre.
