Amy Lau Named Director of K-12 Programs, Raleigh Office

Effective, July 6, 2023, Amy Lau has been named Director for K-12 Programs, Raleigh Office for Helping Education. Previously, Amy served as Deputy Director for K-12 Programs. Prior to that, she served as Program Trainer and Coach for K-12, with focused support in both our Triangle region and emerging work in New York City.

“Amy has been serving as my right hand in managing the K-12 work in our Raleigh office and the growing program needs in New York City,” said Amy Mattingly, Vice President of K-12 Programs. “Her teaching experience and professionalism have served our team well as we focus on cultivating department efficiencies. As a leader she ensures trust by creating space where everyone can show up and contribute and I look forward to her continued leadership in the Raleigh office,” concluded Mattingly.

As Director of K-12 Program, Raleigh Office, Amy will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our Raleigh office and work closely with Dr. Amy Mattingly, Vice President of K-12 Programs, to manage organizational and program alignment and implementation and directly focus on increasing program support and impact in the Triangle, Guilford County, and New York City regions. This new position will mirror the same position in the Charlotte office, where Kim Perkins will now serve as the Director of K-12 Programs, Charlotte Office. These two positions are designed to cultivate and maintain alignment in K-12 programming across our organization, improve support of students, and increase impact in the regions we serve. These shifts in leadership have come out of a season of focus on improving organizational structure and culture and are the result of strategic planning and our organization’s commitment to advance learning outcomes and promote educational equity.

Gibson, President and Chief Executive Officer. “She previously served as Deputy Director to Dr. Amy Mattingly and this shift will be a natural transition in that continued collaboration to manage program support for more students. This new position, like the same one in our Charlotte office, is designed to build capacity in how we continue to serve students, parents, teachers, and administrators within the schools and communities we collaborate. I am excited for Amy Lau’s leadership and commitment in our Raleigh office to lead these efforts,” concluded Gibson.

Amy joined Helping Education in 2021 as a Program Trainer and Coach. Prior to joining our organization, Amy spent 19 years working in elementary schools as a teacher, presenter, and coach. She graduated from Boston College in 2002 with a B.A. in Psychology and joined the New York City Teaching Fellows upon graduation and worked as an educator in an elementary school in the Bronx for four years. She also completed her M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Lehman College (CUNY) in 2004.

In 2006 Amy relocated to Durham, NC and worked in both public and private schools. While working as a classroom teacher, she also completed her Masters of School Administration (M.S.A.) from North Carolina Central University in 2011. Most recently in her prior role, she has been supporting students in the Triangle and managing program implementation and development for students in New York City.
